Guidance for Montessori Certificate Seekers

Thanks to our advocacy efforts, the state of Georgia now recognizes Montessori credentials with a state teaching certificate.

The Georgia Montessori Teaching Certificate qualifies the holder to teach in a Georgia public Montessori classroom.

To qualify, a certificate seeker must:

• Hold a Montessori credential from a MACTE-accredited institution (or present a Letter of Equivalency)
• Have a bachelor's degree
• Pass the appropriate GACE content area test
• Pass the Georgia Educator Ethics Exam

With guidance from the Georgia Professional Standards Commission, we have created a series of checklists to guide certificate seekers through the application process.
