In a Montessori classroom, the Thousand Chain is a powerful representation of the decimal system. It is a long string of one thousand golden beads, strung together in bars of 10 beads each.
Children counting along the Thousand Chain gain first-hand experience of how a small amount, repeated over and over, grows to a tremendous number.
We call our monthly giving club the Thousand Chain to honor the way a modest gift, repeated each month, can have a tremendous impact for children!
